Black & Blue + Tavern on Liberty Events Tonight

Tonight the Tavern on Liberty is hosting a Brooklyn Brewery tap takeover from 7pm to 11pm featuring some really damn tasty treats.  Sorachi Ace is a beautiful saison and pretty hard to find on draft.  Their Irish Stout and Mary’s Maple Porter both seem to be recent draft-only releases.  They’ve also got Brooklyn Concoction, a widely panned beer based on a cocktail.  They’ll have two different flights available featuring

Mary’s Maple Porter – rich, dark ale featuring a large portion of her maple syrup in the kettle. After fermentation by our house ale yeast, the syrup is no longer sweet (yeast likes to eat maple syrup too), but the maple flavor shows through in a complex interplay with caramel, chocolate, and coffee flavors from our blend of roasted malts. An earthy hop note rounds it all out.

Irish Stout  – brewed the old-fashioned way, without the nitrogen addition. A large portion of the grain is roasted like coffee beans, developing the typical color and flavor of this beer. Aside from British pale malts, the beer includes caramel malts, black patent malt, unmalted black barley and a proportion of flaked raw barley, which helps the beer develop a beautiful, thick natural head. The famous East Kent Golding hop lends to the earthy aroma. The beer is neither filtered, nor fined and has a light, brisk carbonation. The blend of grains gives the beer an espresso-like bite, followed by coffee and chocolate flavors

Sorachi Ace – a classic saison, a cracklingly dry, hoppy unfiltered golden farmhouse ale, but made entirely with now-rare Sorachi Ace hops grown by a single farm in Oregon. We ferment it with our special Belgian ale strain, and then add more Sorachi Ace hops post-fermentation. After the dry-hopping, the beer emerges with a bright spicy lemongrass / lemon zest aroma backed by a wonderfully clean malt flavor.

Monster Ale – a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops. After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spirituous finish, and a strength of 10.3%.

Winter Ale – will have you looking on the bright side of things. Rich Scottish malts bring deep bready flavors to a beer with a full copper color, a round, smooth palate, and brisk hopping that pulls the sweet malts into balance.

Black Chocolate Stout –  award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style, once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specially roasted malts.

Concoction – English Peat Smoked Malt, English Pale Malt, German Pilsner Malt Dried Lemon Peel, Minced ginger NYS Wildflower Honey, Organic Lemon Juice from Italy

Tonight Black and Blue in Easton is also holding a tap takeover with a brewery that you don’t see much draft of around here: Lost Abbey/Port Brewing.  Starting at 4pm they’ll have Angel’s Share, Devotion, Mongo Double IPA, and Wipeout on tap.
