Musikfest Picks for Day 3 – Sunday, August 4th

It’s Sunday.  That means you probably have work tomorrow, so don’t go too hard.  Still, Musikfest stops for no one and there’s more great acts, including probably the greatest one this year, going on tonight.

South Side

Leftover Cuties – performing from 5pm to 6:30pm at Americaplatz at Levitt Pavilion SteelStacks
This pop band incorporates old timey jazz and swing to produce an upbeat, whimsical sound that’s refined and accessible.  Their music isn’t strictly   like Roaring 20’s big band swing, but a more modern approach that many will enjoy.

The Red Elvises – performing from 9pm to 11pm at Americaplatz at Levitt Pavilion SteelStacks
As we said yesterday, if you don’t know who these guys are you obviously haven’t been festing for very long.  They’re must-see party rockers from Russia.  How can you say no?

Brick + Mortar – performing from 11pm to 12am at the TD Bank Community Stage at the Air Products Town Square
We’re voting this band “Most Likely to Blow Up” out of all the Musikfest performers.  Their latest single “Bangs” is loud, catchy, and all-around fantastic.  The video is gory and violent as hell, and based on an insane true story of the lead singer’s family history.   They just played Lollapalooza and while it’s a late show, all indications show that it’ll be worth sticking around for.

North Side

Pearl and the Beard – performing from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at Main Street
This trio utilizes a variety of instruments, from a cello to a glockenspiel to an accordion to produce their laid back melodies.  They have that upbeat, folky, singer-songwriter vibe that so many of the bands at Musikfest this year do, but they do it the best.

Philadelphia Funk Authority – performing from 7:30pm to 11pm at Festplatz
Funk.  The best around.  Sometimes joined by Philly’s local news anchor Ukee Washington on drums.  They’re worth every second of the sweat-drenched two and a half hours you’ll spend dancing to their set.
